Originally founded in 1826 as Western Reserve College, Case Western Reserve University is a busy private research institution located about five miles east of bustling downtown Cleveland, OH. Home to a prestigious electrochemical and biomedical research program, the school offers about 85 majors and around 150 postgraduate programs, catering to business, law, the sciences and the arts. CWRU also offers artsy students the chance to study at the Cleveland Institute of Art and Music. The school's alumni base, which includes 16 Nobel laureates, also includes Craigslist founder Craig Newmark and Gmail creator Paul Buchheit. Approximately one-third of the student body participates in Greek Life. The traditional Hudson Relays - a 26-mile relay race commemorating the institution's move from Hudson, Ohio to the current campus - have been run every year since 1910.
