Davidson College is a private liberal arts school with a primary campus in Davidson, NC, as well as a special lake campus beside Lake Norman, the largest man-made body of freshwater in the state. Davidson made history in 2007 by becoming the first liberal arts college to eliminate loans in financial aid packages: all aid is provided through grants or work-study funds. Davidson students can choose from among 29 majors and 25 minors; over three-quarters take their studies overseas through Davidson’s wide-ranging study abroad offerings. Davidson’s famous honor code, which dates back to the school’s 1837 founding, is signed by all freshmen and allows for take-home tests and unproctored exams. That trust translates into a tight-knit campus community: Davidson students participate in over 200 student organizations, and 97% of students choose to live on campus.
