Known as one of the "Little Ivies" - a group of highly selective, academically rigorous liberal arts schools - Wesleyan University is a private liberal arts college located in Middletown, CT. Founded in 1831 under the auspices of the Methodist Episcopal Church, the university emphasizes undergraduate-only instruction in the arts and sciences. It has been fully secular since 1937. Wesleyan’s extensive academic offerings include 1,000 courses across 45 majors, 17 minors, and 12 certificates. Wesleyan also offers a five-year BA/MA program in the sciences, and manages a Quantitative Analysis Center, which enables collaboration between departments through data analysis. Classes are intimate: Wesleyan has an 8:1 student to faculty ratio. Extracurricular life at Wesleyan is equally vibrant: Wesleyan offers more than 250 student clubs and organizations and seven Greek societies. Notable alumni include Hamilton creator and star Lin-Manuel Miranda, New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, and filmmakers Joss Whedon and Michael Bay.
