The United States Coast Guard Academy is one of the biggest risers on this year’s Top Colleges list, and with good reason. A top school for alumni income, student debt (as the school is tuition-free) and graduation rate, the Coast Guard Academy is a relatively small institution, with less than 1,000 cadets on its New London campus. This has lent itself to some fine academics, and its student-faculty ratio is 7:1. Its five academic departments include ones more relevant to the armed services, including strategic intelligence studies and professional maritime studies. It is the only military academy overseen by the Department of Homeland Security, and graduates serve five years in the United States Coast Guard. For morale and spirit, Objee, the school’s official mascot, is dressed before up before a big Football game or other athletic event.
