Created in 1890 thanks to major funding from American oil tycoon John D. Ninety-one Nobel laureates have also been affiliated with the school, as well as 50 MacArthur “Genius Grant” recipients, along with numerous Rhodes, Fulbright, Goldwater Award winners. Currently, UChicago has around 50 majors and 30 minors, and the 350+ clubs on campus include the farcical newspaper Chicago Shady Dealer and Eckhart Consulting firm. The university’s alumni include Hyatt Hotel executive Tony Pritzker, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, and writer Kurt Vonnegut. The UChicago Maroons compete athletically in the NCAA Division III.
