At the center of campus life at private liberal-arts school Colorado College is the “Block Plan”: each student takes only one class at a time the entirety of his or her college career. These 3.5 week “blocks” are for fast and focused learners; learning a semester’s worth of material means daily 9:00-noon classes (with labs in the afternoon), whether on the Colorado Springs campus or elsewhere. A semester consists of four blocks, and in between each block is a “block break” long weekend. If outdoorsy students want to leave the Rocky Mountain campus for a block break, they’re in luck – there are ten ski resorts within three hours of driving, and the college has its own cabin 30 miles away. CC has produced many distinguished alumni, including former Second Lady Lynne Cheney, (lin chay ni) NFL Films co-founder Steve Sabol and multibillionaire Wal-Mart heir Lukas Walton.
