Located in the Lehigh Valley (and less than a mile from the Crayola Factory), Lafayette College is a prestigious liberal arts and engineering college founded in 1826 known for its engineering and liberal arts programs. Its 340-acre campus, a stone’s throw away from the Delaware River, is about 15 miles away from its rival school, Lehigh University. Lafayette and Lehigh have competed in football for 152 years, the most-played football rivalry in NCAA history (Lafayette leads 78-69-5). The school is currently investing in the arts, with a new arts campus coming soon for theater, film and media studies programs. Abroad programs are huge at Lafayette, with 53% of students participating before their senior years. Amazingly, two-thirds of engineering students study abroad without jeopardizing their chances of graduating in four years – no small feat, since a fifth of students studying engineering. A notable former Explorer includes one of the richest Filipinos: Mariano John Lim Tan Jr.
