Pitzer College is a private liberal arts college in Claremont, CA, 35 miles away from Los Angeles. Founded in 1963, Pitzer’s strong academics and tight-knit atmosphere give its older East Coast liberal arts school peers a run for their money. Pitzer students can choose from more than 40 majors and 20 minors, with psychology, biological sciences and political studies/public policy as the most popular. Pitzer also boasts a unique Secular Studies program, the first of its kind in the nation. At Pitzer, learning is combined with a commitment to service: all students take service-based learning courses before they graduate. Pitzer students -- 73% of whom live on campus -- also find time to get involved in over 50-plus Pitzer student organizations and compete on 21 NCAA Division III teams. Pitzer is a member of the Claremont Colleges Consortium: its students can take classes, eat in dining halls, and participate in activities at Claremont McKenna College, Harvey Mudd College, Pomona College, Scripps College, Claremont Graduate University and Keck Graduate Institute.
