Located in the center of Silicon Valley, students at Santa Clara University simultaneously experience the rapidly changing tech community and the traditional Jesuit religion. Founded in 1851, Santa Clara is the oldest institution in the state of California. The small private university offers 50 majors, minors and programs ranging from computer science to religious studies. Students are encouraged to embrace the Jesuit tradition of invention through entrepreneurship at the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation and through the Frugal Innovation Hub, where students utilize information learned in the classroom to solve problems for non-profits. The 106-acre campus is home to several religious centers, including the well-known Mission Church and the St. Claire Garden. A campus favorite tradition includes quarterly Bronco Night, which offers students free food and music performances. The Santa Clara Broncos compete in the NCAA Division I and field 20 teams. Notable alumni include California Governor Jerry Brown and two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash.
