The historic college town of Northfield, MN is home base for St. Olaf College, a Lutheran-affiliated college with a rich liberal arts tradition. St. Olaf has worked to distinguish itself both in Northfield and beyond. Its campus, which is powered primarily by an on-campus wind turbine and a 40-acre solar panel field, uses no carbon-born electrical power. 95% of students live on the charming 300-acre campus, in either a residential hall or in one of the 19 academic or special interest houses. The school’s off-campus study numbers are also impressive; over three-quarters study off-campus once. Over 70% study in another country, and St. Olaf sends more students abroad than any baccalaureate college in the nation. This is largely made possible by the college’s academic calendar: two four month semesters, with a one-month exploratory term in January. The school matches 100% of student demonstrated need through financial aid.
